Program Description:

Welcome to Miami University Exchange Programs

Exchange Students come to Miami University from partner universities around the world. Your university must be a partner with Miami University in order to apply as an exchange student. Students apply for the Miami University Exchange Program through their university's Global Initiatives Office.

All students coming to Miami through a exchange agreement apply directly to the Office of Global Initiatives which coordinates exchange programs.  Applications should NOT be sent to the Admission Office. The Office of Global Initiatives will work with academic advisors to verify course availability. Some advisors may pre-register students in courses; others may need to register during orientation.

Upon approval for admission, the Office of Global Initiatives issues the paperwork necessary to obtain a J-1 visa from the U.S. Department of State. The visa documents will be sent directly to the student's home school coordinator.  Students will also receive information on housing and insurance requirements with their acceptance packet.

Students are expected to arrive in time for the mandatory orientation program.  Orientation includes presentations about immigration status, safety on campus, and cultural adjustment. Students will meet with an advisor in  the department in which they will be studying to finalize class selection and registration.  Students will be also be invited to a Welcome Reception at the residence of the President of Miami University. Other activities are planned for students throughout the term they are at Miami University.

Students who will be employed on campus are eligible to get a U.S. Social Security Card.  Off-campus employment is not permitted without prior authorization.
