Program Description:

MIAMI UNIVERSITY
INDEPENDENT STUDENT TRAVEL

Are you a Miami student travelling abroad independently for academic or service opportunities? If so, Miami wants to know!

The independent travel option here is not a formal program; rather this application serves as a way for students to log their academic or service learning related travel with the university. Examples of this type of travel may include, but are not limited to, 1) students taking an independent study course that involves international research; 2) students traveling to do research, but not earning academic credit, or 3) international travel to a conference.

But, this is not a formal study abroad program. Miami cannot set up or arrange these travel experiences, nor is credit necessarily associated with the travel. However, if you are potentially interested in earning credit through your independent academic travel, you may be able to set up in independent study course. Independent studies are arranged with individual faculty; it is recommended that you contact the academic department for more information.

Miami wants to support your academic travel, even if you are not participating in a formal study abroad program. Though no formal application is required, please "apply now" to this site to submit the University documents. By registering your travel on this site, Miami is in a better position to assist you in the event of an emergency. For example, students registered on this site have access to purchase international health insurance through our policy through GeoBlue International Health Insurance.

In the event of an emergency, you are encouraged to call MU PD collect at 513-529-2222.
