Tell Me More...

We are pleased to offer students our 12th Kosovo Summer Workshop in Prishtina, Kosovo from May 25-July 6, 2019. We have made some exciting changes for this year, including: a shorter workshop with an earlier start to accommodate busy students’ summers; homestays with local families to deepen student’s intercultural experience; and access to more rewarding internship experiences. Dr. Carl Dahlman (GIC/ITS) and Dr. Richard Campbell will be teaching the courses this year and Dr. Dahlman will be directing the workshop.

This 6-week program is open to all students and is ideal for majors in International Studies, Journalism, Media and Culture, Social Justice, Political Science and related fields. Our Kosovo Program alums describe the experience as life changing, as they really get to know the people of another country, which is a compelling mixture of modern and traditional values, of youthful energy and optimism about building a free, open society. Students from our past workshops found that when they applied for jobs or graduate school, interviewers were as impressed with their experience in Kosovo as with their academic record!

The workshop includes several daytrips to cities in Kosovo or nearby. In the past, students have enjoyed the trips to the historical cultural town of Prizren and the rebuilt town of Peja at the foot of the Albanian Alps. Interesting cities, rural villages, nature, sports, and even beaches are within reach for weekend trips for students who wish to travel on their own.

Students can earn 8 transferable Miami credit hours. The workshop also satisfies the entire study abroad requirement for ITS majors. The workshop is structured as two weeks of courses followed by four weeks of internship, with weekly class meetings to discuss their activities.
